Box Score The Wayne State women's soccer team opened up NSIC conference play with a 4-1 win over Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall Friday afternoon. The Wildcats are now 2-2-1 and 1-0 in the league while the host Mustangs drop to 0-5 and 0-1 in the NSIC.
The first score of the contest came from junior midfielder
Paige Pemberton at the 37' mark to put WSC up 1-0 before the two squads exited for halftime.
The 'Cats came out of the break ready to go and scored their second goal one minute into the second half off a
Maia Vacks feed to
Alaina Sorensen. The third goal for WSC came late in the second period at the 69' with
Riann Daas sending the ball past the Mustang goalie for a 3-0 lead. SMSU found the back of the net for their only score of the afternoon in the 75' and shortly after that
Alyssa Ferin would put the Mustangs away with the fourth Wildcat goal of the day.
WSC edged out SMSU 51-49 percent in time of possession and took advantage of it, having 14 shots with nine on goal and limited the Mustangs to four shots with three SOG.
Sidney Truman held it down for WSC in the goal playing all 90 minutes in the box and collected two saves.
Morgan Rhodes led with three shot attempts with all three being on goal in just 56 minutes of play. Pemberton, Ferin and
Jordan Bedard followed with two shots and one SOG each.
The Wildcats will be back in action on September 22, 2024, in Wayne when they host the Cougars of University of Sioux Falls at 1 p.m.
