Channatee Robles and sophomore setter
Molly Romano were named NSIC Volleyball Offensive Player and Setter of the Week respectively Monday morning by the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota following their performances in Wayne State's wins last week over Sioux Falls and #15 Southwest Minnesota State. It's the first time this season and second time as a Wildcat that Robles has been named Offensive Player of the Week while Romano was named Setter of the Week for the first time in her WSC career.
Robles, a 5-11 outside hitter from Norfolk (Norfolk Catholic HS), averaged an NSIC-best 6.00 kills and 6.21 points per set with a .351 hitting percentage last week. She had a career-high 24 kills with 18 digs in Saturday's 3-1 home win over #15 Southwest Minnesota State and produced 18 kills and a .516 hitting percentage in Thursday's 3-0 road sweep at Sioux Falls.
For the season, Robles is averaging 3.29 kills (11
th-NSIC) and 2.89 digs per set and ranks seventh in the league in points per set (3.88) and eighth in service aces at 0.41 per set.
Romano, a 5-9 sophomore setter from Council Bluffs, Iowa (Abraham Lincoln HS), accounted for 12.14 assists and 2.00 digs per set in Wayne State's wins over Sioux Falls and #15 SMSU. She was credited with 50 assists and had six digs in Saturday's 3-1 home win over #15 Southwest Minnesota State and had 35 assists with seven kills on just eight attacks (.875) in Thursday's road sweep at Sioux Falls.
This season, Romano is averaging 10.77 assists per set to rank sixth in the NSIC and she has seven double-doubles for the Wildcats.
Wayne State, ranked seventh in last week's AVCA/TARAFLEX Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, is tied for first in the NSIC with an 10-1 league mark and is 17-3 overall heading into Tuesday evening's NSIC road match at Augustana starting at 6 p.m.
