Wayne State linebacker Alex Kowalczyk and placekicker Boston Hensley were named NSIC Football Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week Monday afternoon by the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota following their performances in Saturday's 38-31 win over #13 Augustana.  It's the first time this season and fourth time in his career that Kowalczyk has earned Defensive Player of the Week honors while for Hensley it's the second time this year and third in his career being named Special Teams Player of the Week.
Kowalczyk, a 5-11, 220 pound gradate student from Sioux Falls, S.D. (O'Gorman HS) recorded 16 tackles in Saturday's win over the Vikings that helped clinch the NSIC South Division title for the Wildcats.  He was credited with 10 solo tackles along with one sack and two pass breakups while helping lead a Wildcat defense hold Augustana to just 274 yards of total offense, 140 yards below their season average.
Hensley, a 5-11, 190-pound junior from Council Bluffs, Iowa (Lewis Central HS), scored eight points while helping the Wildcats knock off #13 Augustana.  He was 5-5 on PAT kicks and also booted a 39-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.  Hensley also averaged 64.7 yards on seven kickoffs with five touchbacks.  Hensley ended the season 43-46 on PAT kicks this season, making the fifth-most PAT's in a single season.
Wayne State ended the season at 7-4 overall, winners of their last four games that included wins over #9 Minnesota State and #13 Augustana.  The Wildcats finished as NSIC South Division champions with a 5-1 division mark.
