Molly Romano were named Monday afternoon as Northern Sun Conference Volleyball Players of the Week by the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota. Miller earned NSIC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the first time as a Wildcat while Romano was named NSIC Setter of the Week for the third time this season.
Miller, a 5-10 freshman from Ankeny, Iowa (Centennial HS) averaged an NSIC-best 5.71 kills per set in leading the Wildcats to home wins over Jamestown and Northern State. She hit .333 in two matches, posting a career-high 23 kills in Saturday's 3-1 victory over Northern State and added 17 kills in Friday's 3-0 sweep over Jamestown. Miller also led the NSIC last week with 6.00 points per set.
For the season, Miller ranks sixth in the NSIC with 3.63 kills per set and is hitting .279 for the season. Last week she was named All-NSIC First Team and NSIC Freshman of the Year.
Romano, a 5-9 sophomore from Council Bluffs, Iowa (Abraham Lincoln HS), recorded a league-high 12.57 assists per set to go with 2.71 digs in leading WSC to home wins over Jamestown and Northern State. She was just one kill shy of a rare triple-double Saturday vs. the Wolves accounting for 50 set assists, 10 digs and a career-high nine kills. Romano also had 38 assists with three aces in Friday's sweep over Jamestown.
This season, Romano ranks fifth in the NSIC with 11.05 assists per set and has 10 double-doubles while averaging 2.53 digs per set. Romano was named All-NSIC First Team at setter last Thursday.
Wayne State, ranked third in last week's AVCA/TARAFLEX Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, is 26-3 on the season and captured their third NSIC regular season title in the last four years over the weekend with two home wins to finish league play at 19-1. The Wildcats are the #2 seed for the NSIC Volleyball Tournament and host #7 seed Northern State Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. in Rice Auditorium.
