Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

WSC men top Hesston College 97-50

            Wayne State shot 60 percent from the field in rolling past Hesston College 97-50 Monday evening in the final non-conference men's basketball game for the Wildcats this season at Rice Auditorium in Wayne.  The Wildcats move to 4-3 on the year while Hesston falls to 0-14.
            The contest was close early with five lead changes and three ties.  The visiting Larks held a 16-14 lead at the 12:12 mark of the first half following a layup from Trent Thompson.
            Wayne State then reeled off 19 straight points over the next 5:07 to turn a two-point deficit into a commanding 33-16 lead with just over seven minutes to play in the first half.
            The Wildcats closed the first half with 67 percent shooting making 21 of 31 shots from the field and held a 50-25 lead at halftime.
            The second half saw extensive playing time for Wildcat reserves as 10 of 11 Wildcats scored in the final 20 minutes.  Wayne State made 16 of 30 shots including 7 of 9 beyond the arc as the Wildcats cruised to the 97-50 win.
            Redshirt freshman Darshan Thomas scored 18 points for the Wildcats, going 8 of 12 from the field.  Andrew Stokes and true freshman Ben Kerkhoff each added 17 points as all 11 Wildcats scored in the contest.
            Wayne State ended the game making 37 of 61 shots for 60.7 percent, including 11 of 17 from 3-point range.  The 'Cats were 12 for 19 at the free throw stripe.
            Antonio Odum and Brennon Dodge both scored 11 points for Hesston College.  The Larks were 19 of 57 from the floor for 33.3 percent, going 7 of 27 behind the arc and 5 of 8 at the charity stripe.
            WSC held a commanding 45-22 advantage in rebounding thanks to eight boards by Stokes and six from Thomas. 
            Aurrion Harris had seven assists and two blocks for the 'Cats while Kai Smith and Wade Voss each accounted for two steals.
            Wayne State is back in Northern Sun Conference play Wednesday evening hosting the University of Sioux Falls at 5:30 p.m. in Rice Auditorium.
