Three Wayne State pitchers held Central Missouri to just four hits as the Wildcats edged the Jennies 3-2 Monday afternoon at the Washburn Softball Tournament in Topeka, Kansas. The Wildcats are now 6-2 on the year while Central Missouri is 6-4.
WSC opened the scoring in the third inning when
Mary Krystofiak singled to lead off the inning and pinch-runner
Payton Kincaid later scoring on a
Jordyn Klein single for a 1-0 Wildcat lead.
The 'Cats took a 2-0 lead in the fourth when
Kennadi Borngrebe walked to start the inning and scored on a
Maddie Scobee single.
Central Missouri answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to knot the score at 2-2, but WSC scored the eventual game-winning run in the top of the fifth as Klein walked and crossed home plate on an infield single from
Taylor Coleman putting the 'Cats ahead 3-2.
The Jennies put the tying run on third base with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but Wildcat reliever Samanatha Felt got a ground out to first to end the game recording the save as WSC held on for the 3-2 win.
Wayne State had seven hits in the win to just four by Central Missouri. Freshman second baseman
Leah Chance went 2 for 4 with a double to lead the 'Cats at the plate. Klein, Coleman and Scobee each recorded RBI singles for the Wildcats while Krystofiak and
Emilee Marth each added singles for the 'Cats.

Kennadi Borngrebe started the game and worked 3 1/3 innings, allowing just one hit and two runs (both unearned) with six strikeouts and six walks. Senior
Grace Lucka followed with 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, yielding just two hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Senior
Samantha Felt came on for the final 1/3 inning to record her second save of the season, charged with one hit allowed.
The Wildcats play two more games Tuesday to wrap up play at the Washburn Tournament, facing Missouri Western at 10 a.m. and host Washburn in a 12 p.m. contest.
