Wayne State softball went extra innings to improve to 5-0 on their Florida spring break trip Sunday morning with a 6-5 victory in eight innings over Concord (N.C.) at the National Training Center Spring Games played at Legends Way in Clermont, Florida. The Wildcats are now 12-7 on the season with the Mountain Lions now 5-11.
Concord opened the scoring with two runs in the second, but WSC got one back in the top of the third when senior outfielder
Lauren Laudick doubled and scored on a
Jordyn Klein RBI single.
The Mountain Lions added two more runs in the fourth to grab a 4-1 advantage, but the lead was short-lived as the Wildcats plated three runs in the top of the fifth thanks to a two-out rally to knot the score at 4-4.
Mary Krystofiak and Laudick both singled with Klein lacing an RBI single to center field scoring Krystofiak. Freshman
Leah Chance followed with a two-run double to center field bringing home Laudick and Klein to make the score 4-4.
Concord regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth with one run to grab a 5-4 cushion.

Jordyn Rochholz moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Laudick, advanced to third on an infield single from Klein and scored on a sacrifice fly by Chance to make the score 5-5.
The Mountain Lions started a rally in the bottom of the seventh with a single and walk to put runners at second and third with just one out, but reliever Sami Felt got a strikeout and
Kennadi Borngrebe recorded a ground out to get out of the inning sending the game to extra frames.
With
Emilee Marth placed at second base to start extra play, Borngrebe had a sacrifice bunt to advance Marth to third and then scored on a
Taylor Coleman RBI double for a 6-5 WSC lead.
In the bottom of the eighth, Concord got a flyout to advance their runner to third with one out. But Borngrebe struck out the final two batters to seal the win for WSC.
Wayne State had one more hit than Concord 9-8. Klein finished 3 for 4 with two RBI. Laudick went 2 for 2 with a double and two runs scored. Chance, Coleman and Hayley Murhpy each doubled.
Grace Lucka started the game and worked two innings, allowing two runs on three hits. Felt pitched the following 4 2/3 innings and was charged with three runs (all unearned) on five hits. Borngrebe fired the final 1 1/3 innings retiring all four batters with two strikeouts to notch the win, now 6-3 on the year.
Wayne State continues play Sunday afternoon at the NTC Spring Softball Games in Florida facing and Eckerd (Fla.) in a 1 p.m. contest.
