AU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning off a two-run home run from their third batter.
Emilee Marth would record the first hit for the 'Cats with a double to center in the first but would be left on the bags. In the second,
Grace Lucka would strike out the Vikings in order.
The Vikings would build on that lead in the fourth when they tacked on three more runs on three hits. The Wildcats scored their lone run in game one on a sacrifice fly from
Mary Krystofiak that allowed
Taylor Coleman to score.
Later in the sixth inning, the Vikings would add more insurance runs. The Vikings would smash two triples and a double to get three more runs scored taking an 8-1 lead. Marth cranked another double to right center to get back on the bases but again was left stranded.
Augustana closed the seventh inning with their three finals runs and would close the door on any Wildcat comeback attempt. Marth would finish game one 2 for 3 and Lucka would finish with 10 strikeouts.
Game two started scoreless through the first two innings. WSC left a Viking on the bags after the first and
Taylor Coleman and the defense was able to put Augie down in order in the second.
WSC had the bases juiced in the first inning with one out and were unable to get a run scored as the Vikings escaped the jam. After two scoreless innings, Augustana put two runs on the board on a WSC error.
The 'Cats cut it to a one run deficit scoring one run in the fourth and another in the sixth.
Maddie Scobee drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the fourth that allowed Coleman to score. For the second time in game two, the Wildcats had the bases loaded and only scored on run in the sixth.
Leah Chance led off with a single and would later score after a Coleman single up the middle. This cut the Vikings lead to 3-2 heading into the final fame.
Augustana added three insurance runs in the top of the seventh on two hits and one error from WSC. The Wildcats would be unable to get anything going in the final frame of play and drop game two 6-2.
The Wildcats will be back in action Saturday at home against Bemidji State starting at 12:00 p.m.
