The Wayne State College men's basketball team and four players were honored Thursday morning by the National Association of Basketball Coaches with the 2024-25 NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards and NABC Honors Court, representing achievement in the classroom by men's college basketball teams and individual players.
The four individual players honored from WSC included seniors
Noah Erickson,
Cody McCullough and
Sean Stokes and junior
Evan Inselman while the Wildcat team was honored with a cumulative grade point average of 3.347 for the 2024-25 season.
The NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards recognize programs that completed the 2024-25 academic year with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher and the NABC Honors Court includes junior, senior and graduate student men's basketball players who finished the 2024-25 year with a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher.
Nearly 400 programs in NCAA, NAIA and junior college ranks along with over 2,400 players received the honors. Wayne State was one of eight schools from the NSIC to earn the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award.
Erickson, a senior forward from Millard North HS, is a three-time NABC Honors Court selection with a 3.36 grade point average. This season he averaged 3.2 points and 2.2 rebounds per game appearing in all 29 games with 11 starts.
McCullough, a senior forward/center from Ankeny, Iowa (Centennial HS) is another three-time NABC Honors Court recipient maintaining a 3.74 grade point average. He produced 11.3 points and 7.2 rebounds per game this season while shooting 52 percent from the floor. McCullough closed his Wildcat career ranked third in blocked shots (108) and sixth in career rebounds with 855.
Stokes, a senior guard from Bensalem, Pa. (Conwell-Egan Catholic HS), earned NABC Honors Court accolades for a third straight season with a grade point average of 3.50. He started and played in 28 of 29 games this season and recorded 6.4 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. Stokes was seventh in the NSIC in steals per game (1.7) and set a new WSC school record and tied NSIC single game record with 10 steals to go with 14 points vs. Minnesota State (12/6/24).
Inselman, a junior forward from Bellevue West HS, carried a 3.53 grade point average this season to be named to the NABC Honors Court for the first time. He appeared in seven games this season averaging 1.1 points per contest.
Wayne State finished the 2024-25 season with a 16-13 overall record and 10-12 mark in the NSIC. It was the fifth straight winning season for Wildcat men's basketball.
