Box Score Wayne State broke open a close game scoring four second-half goals including two in the final 10 minutes as the Wildcats blanked Midland University 5-0 Saturday afternoon in a non-conference women's soccer contest played at the WSC Soccer Pitch. The 'Cats are now 1-0-2 on the season with the Warriors dropping to 1-3-1.
Despite Wayne State possessing the ball for 63 percent in the first half and holding a commanding 17-1 advantage in shots, the 'Cats could only score one goal in the opening 45 minutes against the Warriors as
Reagan Allen found the back of the net on a shot at the 33:20 mark for the 1-0 lead at intermission.
The Wildcats needed less than two minutes to score in the second half as
Tyler Donaldson played a ball from midfield to
Paige Pemberton who scored just 1:39 into the second half for a 2-0 WSC lead.
Later in the half in the 67
th minute, WSC extended the advantage to 3-0 as
Rachel Davis scored with an assist by Allen.
With just under 10 minutes remaining, senior forward
Abby Evers was fouled in the box and converted a penalty kick goal at 80:14 giving the 'Cats a 4-0 lead and the final goal came just over two minutes later as freshman
Jordan Lewis found the back of the net with an assist by
Briella Thompsen at the 82:31 mark making the final score 5-0.
Wayne State held a 36-2 advantage in shots and 12-0 in shots on goal over the Warriors. The 'Cats had a 7-0 edge in corner kicks while Midland was called for seven fouls to just two on WSC.
Allen had a goal and an assist to lead Wayne State's scoring effort while Pemberton, Davis, Evers and Lewis also recorded goals. Pemberton had eight shots in the contest with Allen adding six while
Alyssa Ferin, Davis and
Taylor Woods each had two shots on goal.

Alexa Hofstetter earned the win playing just under 70 minutes in goal while freshman
Katelyn Miller saw action for the final 20-plus minutes to earn a combined shutout win.
The Wildcats begin Northern Sun Conference play next weekend on the road Friday at 3 p.m. vs. Minnesota Crookston and Sunday in a 1 p.m. contest at MSU Moorhead.
