Wayne State middle hitter
Chloe Hanel was announced Monday afternoon as the Northern Sun Conference Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week following her performance in three Wildcat home wins last week. It's the first time the sophomore from Clarkson has earned NSIC Volleyball Player of the Week honors.
A 6-0 middle hitter, Hanel posted an NSIC-best .563 hitting percentage last week averaging 3.82 kills and 1.18 blocks while leading the Wildcats to home wins over Augustana, #16 Minnesota Duluth and Bemidji State. She started the week recording 11 kills with a sizzling .786 hitting percentage and five blocks in a 3-0 sweep over the Vikings Tuesday. Hanel followed that performance with a career-best 24 kills, five blocks and a .590 attack percentage in Friday's reverse sweep home win over previously unbeaten #16 Minnesota Duluth.
For the season, Hanel leads the Wildcats with a .438 hitting percentage that ranks second in the NSIC. She also leads the 'Cats in kills per set (3.13) to rank 13
th in the league and a team-high 0.90 blocks per set that is 10
th in the NSIC.
Wayne State is 11-2 overall and a perfect 5-0 in the NSIC heading into Tuesday night's non-conference home contest against Briar Cliff at 6 p.m. in Rice Auditorium.
