Wildcats rally on final day to win first-ever NSIC Women's Golf Championship - Stancikova claims NSIC individual medalist honors on fourth playoff hole

            Wayne State shot a tournament-best 303 on the final day to rally from a seven-shot deficit and top Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul to win its first-ever Northern Sun Conference Women's Golf Championship at Adams Points Golf Course in Blue Springs, Missouri.  Sophomore Gaia Stancikova was also crowned NSIC individual champion after out-lasting Concordia-St. Paul's Addi Wood in a four-hole playoff.
            The Wildcats finished the 54-hole, three-day event with a 926 shooting rounds of 311-312-303 to finish five shots better than second-place Minnesota State with 931 (308-308-315).  Concordia-St. Paul was third at 934 (315-307-312) with Winona State (951) and Sioux Falls at 953 closing out the top five teams.
            Stancikova, a sophomore from Castel San Pietro Terme, Italy, carded rounds of 74-74-76 to post a +8 224 over 54 holes and tied Addi Wood of Concordia-St. Paul (80-73-71) for individual medalist honors.  The two players began a playoff on hole 18 followed by hole 1 and hole 1 again and the two were tied after three holes.  The pair went back to the 18th hole and Stancikova collected a par to win individual medalist honors on the fourth playoff hole.
            She joins Abbey Kurmel in 2022 and Debbie Yahn in 1998 as individual champions in NSIC women's golf from Wayne State. Stancikova was also one of three Wildcat players to be named to the NSIC All-Tournament Team along with Saffire Sayre and Erica Lee.
            Sayre, a senior from West Des Moines, Iowa, shot a Wildcat-best two-over par 74 in Friday's final round and finished in a tie for fifth overall with 232 after posting scores of 78-80-74.  Lee, a junior from Millard North HS, also finished at 233 and in a tie for fifth overall with rounds of 78-78-76.
            Junior Hailey Kenkel took 17th overall at 238 thanks to rounds of 81-80-77.  Sophomore Camryn Johnson was 35th overall with scores of 81-80-89 for a 250.
            Wayne State, ranked 14th in the latest NCAA Division II Central Region Women's Golf Rankings, receives the automatic bid to the NCAA Central Regional that will take place Monday-Wednesday, May 4-6 in St. Joseph, Missouri at the St. Joseph Country Club.
