Wayne State College sophomore thrower
McKinley Grover was named Northern Sun Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week Monday afternoon following her performances in two meets last week. It's the first time that the graduate of Gordon-Rushville HS has earned NSIC Athlete of the Week honors in women's track and field.
A native of Gordon, Grover hit an NCAA provisional mark winning the discus last Wednesday at the Mount Marty Twilight Meet with a top mark of 170' 7", which is the top mark in the NSIC this season and currently ranks fifth in NCAA Division II.
Grover followed that performance Friday by placing fifth in a strong field of Division I throwers in the discus at the Drake Relays with a mark of 153' 3".
Wayne State is scheduled to compete at a pair of meets this week as some members of the Wildcat team will be in Mankato, Minnesota Wednesday for the Maverick Open #1 Meet while the remainder of the team will be in Vermillion Friday and Saturday for the South Dakota Challenge.
