The Wayne State College women's cross country team placed 17^th out of 28 teams with a score of 490 points Friday evening at the season-opening Augustana Twilight Invitational held at Yankton Trails Park in Sioux Falls.
            South Dakota captured the team title with 33 points, well ahead of second place South Dakota State's 63 points.  Winona State from the NSIC was third with 103 points followed by Augustana (125) and Minnesota State (127) in the top five.  Minnesota Crookston and Jamestown from the NSIC were sixth and seventh with 239 and 268 points with Doane (275), Northern State (294) and Concordia (Neb.) at 319 points rounding out the top 10 teams.
            Bertrand, a freshman from Sioux City, Iowa (Bishop Heelan Catholic HS), was the top WSC finisher coming in 76^th overall from a field of 350 runners with a time of 19:20.8 on the 5,000-meter course.  Junior Allie Czapla was next for the Wildcats at 134^th in a time of 20:09.6 with senior Callie Kirchner 157^th at 20:20.8.
            Battle Creek freshman Olivia Chapman ran a time of 20:23.2 to place 162^nd overall with Wayne sophomore Kyla Krusemark right behind in 165^th at 20:24.4.
            Other Wayne State finishers were – Meghan Cunningham (179^th – 20:42.6), Sara Maguire (183^rd – 20:49.7), Olivia Myers (192^nd – 20:58.8), Kaitlyn Bloomenrader (238^th – 21:36.5), Lilyan Hurner (253^rd – 21:58.0) and Madi McKie (283^rd – 22:39.1).
            Wayne State's next meet is on Saturday, September 19^th when the Wildcats travel to Lincoln for the UNL/Woody Greeno Invitational.
