Wayne State 100 York College 40
The Wayne State College women's basketball team defeated York College 100-40 Tuesday night at Rice Auditorium. The win marked the first time since 2002-03 that the Wildcats have scored 100 points. The win make WSC 4-0 on the season and the loss drops York College to 4-6 on the season.
The Wildcats raced out to 23-2 lead six minutes into the game and were never challenged in the game. Wayne State shot 61.5 percent from the field (24-39) and from the three point line (8-13) in the first half of play. WSC hit 17 three pointers on the night going 17 for 28.
Each player for Wayne State scored on the night with six Wildcats scoring in double figures. Sophomore Ashley Arlen scored a game high 23 points. Arlen shot 100 percent from the three point line, going 5 for 5 to go along with six rebounds and four steals. Junior Alyssa Fischbach added a double-double for the Wildcats scoring 11 points and grabbing 11 boards. Mara Hjelle added 11 points and seven boards for WSC.
Wayne State shot a red hot 60.7 percent from the three point line and shot 52.6 percent from the field. The Wildcats also shot 75 percent from the free throw line. Wayne State out rebounded York College 55 to 24 with 20 of the Wildcats rebounds coming off of the offensive glass.
For York College, guard Megan Thomas led the Panthers with 10 points followed by Juliana Bassetto with nine. York College shot 27.4 percent from the field (17-62), but shot 37.5 percent from the three point line (3-8).
Wayne State will be at home again Saturday afternoon as the Wildcats host Newman University of Kansas in a 3:00 p.m. contest at Rice Auditorium in Wayne.
