Don Hansen Football Gazette All Super Region 3 Release
Wayne State College had four players named to the 2009 Don Hansen Football Gazette Super Region #3 Football Team released today. Junior wide receiver Frederick Bruno was named to the First Team as an all-purpose player while senior quarterback Silas Fluellen, senior wide receiver Logan Masters and senior linebacker Ryan Reeves were each named to the Second Team. This marks the eighth year Football Gazette has selected Division II all-region teams. The national publication, an authority on small college football, has selected Division II All-America Teams since 1998. First and Second Team All-Region selections now advance to a national ballot from which the 2009 Division II Football Gazette All-America Team will be named.
Bruno, a 5-8, 210 pound junior wide receiver from Miami, Florida, led Wayne State and the Northern Sun Conference in receiving this year with 77 catches for 1,163 yards and nine touchdowns. He also had 368 yards rushing on just 32 carries with six more TD's. Bruno ranked third in NCAA Division II in all purpose yards per game (197.27), eighth in receiving yards per game (105.73), 11th in receptions per game (7.00) and tied for 20th in scoring with 14 touchdowns. Bruno was a First Team All-NSIC South Division selection this season and earned AFCA and Associated Press Little All-American honors.
Fluellen, a 6-1, 210 pound quarterback from Bellevue West High School, was a First Team All-Northern Sun Conference South Division selection for the second straight season while setting numerous Wayne State and NSIC career records. This season, Fluellen completed 253 of 390 passes (64.9%) for 3,253 yards and 26 touchdowns. He holds the NSIC career records for passing yards (8,996) and total offense yardage (10,170). Fluellen also became the 29th NCAA Division II players with 10,000 career yards of total offense and the 19th player in NCAA Division II history with 10,000 career passing yards. He was also named the NSIC Offensive Player of the Week seven times in his Wildcat career.
Reeves, a 6-3, 245 pound senior linebacker from Wahoo, Nebraska, led Wayne State and the Northern Sun Conference in tackles for the second straight season, recording 124 tackles with four interceptions and seven pass breakups. Reeves ranked tied for eighth in NCAA Division II with 11.27 tackles per game. He is a repeat selection to the Daktronics Super Region #3 First Team and is a two-time All-NSIC South Division selection at linebacker.
Masters, a 6-3, 185 pound senior wide receiver from Storm Lake, Iowa, had 70 catches for 894 yards and five touchdowns this season for the Wildcats. He ranked second in the NSIC in catches per game and was fourth in receiving yards per game. Masters set an NCAA Division II record this season by catching at least two passes in 46 consecutive games, every game he played in a Wildcat uniform in his four year career. Masters is a two-time NSIC South Division First team selection at wide receiver and was a First Team Daktronics Super Region #3 selection last season.
Wayne State College finished the 2009 season with an 8-3 overall record, going 7-3 in the NSIC to finish in a tie for third place.
