USTFCCCA Women's Cross Country All-Academic Team Release
Wayne State College senior cross country runners Sarah Thomsen and Megan Zavorka are repeat selections to the 2009 NCAA Division II Women's Cross Country All-Academic Team announced today (Friday) by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. To qualify for All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average and have placed in the top 30% of the total number of athletes eligible to compete at the respective regional championships.
Thomsen, a senior from Wahoo, Nebraska majoring in Journalism/Spanish, ran a season-best time of 23:27 over 6,000 meters to finish 43rd out of 147 runners at the NCAA Central Regional Championships hosted by Wayne State last November. She was a two-time All-NSIC runner in cross country and is a three-time selection to the NSIC Fall All-Academic team for cross country. Thomsen was one of 31 athletes named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team that had a perfect 4.00 GPA in the fall 2009 semester.
Zavorka, a senior from Torrington, Wyoming majoring in Chemistry/Biology, placed 10th at the NSIC Championships to earn All-NSIC honors last fall as a senior while placing 23rd at the NCAA Central Regional Championships in Wayne. She was a three-time All-NSIC performer in cross country during her Wildcat career.
A total of 286 NCAA Division II student athletes from 106 schools received the USTFCCCA Women's Cross Country All-Academic honor and the list includes 31 who were reported to have 4.0 GPA's at the end of the fall 2009 semester.
