Wayne State College head football coach Dan McLaughlin announced today that three more players have signed national letters of intent and/or written offers of admission and financial aid to attend Wayne State College and continue their football careers with the Wildcats. Sam Blake of Utica, Nebraska, Matthew Cassidy of Plainfield, Illinois and Ryley Mohl of Bancroft, Nebraska are the latest players to join 27 others as members of the 2010 recruiting class.
Blake is a 6-6, 255 pound tight end that is transferring to Wayne State after playing the last two seasons at Iowa Central Community College. Blake was an All Midwest Football Conference West Division All-Conference honorable mention selection at tight end in 2009 and also excelled in track and field at the school by placing in the shot put and discus at the regional meet. Blake is a graduate of Utica Centennial High School where he was a multi-sport standout in football, basketball and track and field.
Cassidy is a 6-3, 290 pound offensive lineman from Plainfield North High School in Illinois where he earned All Area and All Southwest Prairie Conference honors as a senior helping his team reach the Illinois Class 7A Playoffs with a 7-3 record. He anchored an offensive line that helped Plainfield North rush for over 2,500 yards while scoring 36 touchdowns and was credited with 29 pancakes during the season.
Mohl is a 6-2, 200 pound defensive lineman from Bancroft-Rosalie High School and earned Class D-1 All State First Team honors from the Omaha World Herald and Lincoln Journal Star last fall, helping the Panthers to a 10-1 record and the quarter-final round of the Class D-1 playoffs. Mohl is a three year starter in football and basketball and also was selected Academic All-State honors in football and track and field.
Wayne State College finished the 2009 season with an 8-3 overall record, going 7-3 in the NSIC to finish in a tie for third place. Wayne State College is an NCAA Division II school located in Wayne, Nebraska and competes in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
