The Wayne State College softball team swept Minnesota, Crookston 10-0 and 16-2 Saturday in Northern Sun Conference games played in Crookston, Minnesota.  Katie Goetzinger pitched a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts in the first game while Brittany Greenwood highlighted a 16-hit attack going 3 for 3 with four RBI's in the second game win. The Wildcats remain unbeaten in league play at 4-0 while improving to 19-5 overall with Minnesota, Crookston slipping to 3-11 and 0-4 in league play.

The first game saw WSC score 10 runs on just six hits, but that was more than enough support for Wildcat pitcher Katie Goetzinger, who struck out 11 while tossing a one-hitter in the shutout win.

WSC held a 3-0 lead entering the fifth inning, then scored seven runs to post the 10-0 win.  Katie Goetzinger's RBI single was the lone hit in a two-run second inning.  Sam Earleywine's solo homer in the fourth gave WSC a 3-0 advantage.  In the fifth inning, Jennifer Radley's two-run single and a two-run double by Aeriell Earleywine were key hits as the Wildcats defeated the Golden Eagles 10-0.

Goetzinger improved to 12-4 on the season with the win.  Six different players had hits for the Wildcats, led by Sam Earleywine's solo homer.  Aeriell Earleywine doubled while Hannah Engelkamp, Radley, Goetzinger and Kassie Nurton each singled.

The second game saw the Wildcats record 16 hits while scoring nine runs in the seventh inning as WSC coasted to a 16-2 win.  The 'Cats opened with four runs in the first inning off five hits as Brittany Greenwood had an RBI double to go with Amber Baird's run-scoring single.  Greenwood had another RBI double in the third inning, giving WSC a 5-0 lead.  Amy Sandstrom's RBI double in the fourth and a sacrifice fly by Blaire Kuhl put the 'Cats up 7-0.  After UMC scored two runs in the fourth, the score remained 7-2 until WSC plated nine runs on five hits in the seventh inning to make the final score 16-2.  Amy Sandstrom's grand slam homer highlighted the inning while Michele Hogan and Brittany Greenwood each belted two-run singles.

Greenwood finished a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate with two doubles, a single and four RBI's while Sandstrom ended 3 for 5 with five RBI's, including a grand slam homer, and two runs scored.  Blaire Kuhl, Sam Earleywine, Aeriell Earleywine and Kassie Nurton each added two hits in the win.

Amber Baird (5-1) was the winning pitcher, striking out nine in five innings of work while allowing two runs on four hits.  Michele Hogan worked the final two innings, striking out five without allowing a hit to end the game.

Wayne State will host Winona State Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in a key Northern Sun Conference doubleheader at the Pete Chapman Softball Complex.
