NSIC Men's Golf All-Conference Release
The Wayne State College men's golf team swept Northern Sun Conference post-season awards announced by the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota Friday afternoon as senior Adam Fields was named NSIC Men's Golfer of the Year while head coach Troy Harder was selected as the league's Coach of the Year. Senior Jake Hirz was also honored by the league office receiving honorable mention All-Northern Sun Conference recognition.
Fields, a senior from Sioux City, Iowa (Heelan HS), led the NSIC with a scoring average of 72.9 and was individual medalist at this year' 90-hole NSIC Tournament with a one-over par score of 356. He was selected NSIC Men's Golfer of the Week twice this season and is coming off a 54-hole school record score of 206 after firing rounds of 68-69-69 at the RMAC Men's Spring Championships in Litchfield Park, Arizona Monday and Tuesday. It's the third straight season that Fields has been named to the NSIC All-Conference Men's Golf Team. He was also announced Friday afternoon as an individual qualifier for the NCAA Division II Central/West Regional in Albuquerque, New Mexico, marking the third straight season that Fields has qualified for the NCAA Division II National Tournament.
Hirz, a senior from Bellevue West, was one of five league players to receive honorable mention All-Conference honors. He was named to the NSIC Men's Golf All-Tournament Team after finishing in a tie for third place overall with a 90-hole score of 373 which included rounds of 73-69-72 to help WSC move from fourth to second in the final segment of the NSIC Tournament.
Harder was selected by fellow coaches as the NSIC Men's Golf Coach of the Year after leading the Wildcats to a second place finish at this year's Northern Sun Conference Championships, marking the best-ever finish for a Wildcat men's golf team at the NSIC Tournament. He coached two All-Conference performers in Adam Fields and Jake Hirz, who were also both named to the NSIC Men's Golf All-Tournament Team.
