WSC baseball extends win streak to 10 with sweep over Minnesota, Crookston

Game 2 - Wayne State 18 Minnesota, Crookston 4

            The Wayne State College baseball team extended their winning streak to 10 games Tuesday afternoon in Crookston, Minnesota as the Wildcats swept Minnesota, Crookston by scores of 7-0 and 18-4 (7 Innings) in NSIC Baseball. The Wildcats were led by junior Mike Bisenius who was 5 for 8 at the plate with five runs scored. The surging Wildcats move to 22-16 overall and 15-9 in the NSIC while the Golden Eagles drop to 0-35 overall and 0-26 in the NSIC.

            The first game saw the Wildcats score all seven runs in the first two innings as WSC walked away with a 7-0 win. Wayne State scored five runs in the first inning on four hits. Bisenius gave the 'Cats a 1-0 lead on an RBI single scoring Pat Burkhart. Travis Parsons hit an RBI double scoring Braulio Acosta and Mike Bisenius scored on a ground out off the bat of Nick Bidroski to make it 3-0. Slade Bolles added an RBI double and CJ Nolen added an RBI later in the inning making it 5-0 WSC after one inning.

            The Wildcats were back at it in the top of the second inning adding two more runs. The Inning was highlighted by a two run single from Bidroski to give the 'Cats a 7-0 lead as the Wildcat pitching staff shut down the Golden Eagles to take the first game of the doubleheader 7-0.

            Austen Wisroth earned the win improving to 5-4 on the season as the junior threw just two innings allowing one run with three strikeouts. Eric Schwieger had a solid outing for WSC going three innings allowing only one hit with six strikeouts. Trevor Reeves threw the final two innings allowing one hit with three strikeouts.

            The 'Cats were led offensively by Bisenius who was 3 for 4 in the first contest with two runs scored and an RBI. Acosta was 2 for 4 with two runs scored. Bidroski was 1 for 4 with three RBI's.

            The second game saw the Wildcats pound out 16 hits and score 18 runs in an 18-4 win over UMC. Once again the Wildcat bats were on fire early as WSC scored eight runs in the first two innings. The offensive outburst was highlighted by seven hits with three of the seven hits going for extra bases. The Wildcats added six runs in the fifth inning highlighted by a three run homer off the bat of Parsons. The Wildcats placed three more runs on the board in the sixth as the 'Cats took the second game 18-4.

            Taylor Simmonds improved to 2-0 on the season as the true freshman threw four innings allowing three runs on four hits with two strikeouts. Tyler Hohenstein threw two innings of relief for WSC allowing one run on three hits with two knockouts. Matt Meier pitched the final frame for WSC with three strikeouts.

            The Wayne State offense was paced by Burkhart who was 3 for 5 with four runs scored while Parsons was 2 for 4 with four RBI's and two runs scored. Bisenius was 2 for 3 with three runs scored and Luke Farrar was 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBI's.

            Wayne State will close out the regular season this weekend as the 'Cats face Southwest Minnesota State in a pair of NSIC doubleheaders at the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex in Wayne. The games are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday with doubleheaders slated to start at 12:00 p.m. each day.
