Kelly Voigt each netted one goal while
Mallory Hoyt and
Jordan Hobza each notched an assist to lead Wayne State College in a 2-0 Northern Sun Conference women's soccer victory Sunday afternoon over Southwest Minnesota State. With the win, the Wildcats are now 3-14-1 overall and 3-11-1 in the NSIC while the Mustangs fall to 7-9-1 and 5-9-1 in league play.
Wayne State got on the scoreboard 11:50 into the first half when
Jordan Hobza found
Kayli Hopper right in front of the net for her fourth goal of the season. The second goal for the Wildcats came eight minutes into the second half when WSC was awarded a corner kick.
Mallory Hoyt placed the ball in the corner of the field and booted it towards the net where freshman
Kelly Voigt buried the ball in the back of the net with a header for her second goal of the season. Wayne State would then hold the Mustangs scoreless the rest of the contest to preserve the 2-0 shutout.
Southwest Minnesota State held a 13-7 edge in shots over WSC including 10-3 in shots on goal. WSC had four corner kicks to two for the Mustangs and both teams were called for seven fouls and one yellow card in the contest.
Hobza recorded two shots and one assist for the Wildcats while Voigt, Adams, Hoyt, Hopper and
Rachel Mabrey all attempted one shot a piece. Hopper and Voigt each had a goal for WSC while Hoyt had an assist. Freshman goalkeeper
Courtney True did not allow a goal while notching 10 saves in 90:00 minutes of work.
Wayne State ends the 2012 soccer season with an overall record of 3-14-1 and 3-11-1 in conference play after ending the season on a two game win streak.
