WSC Softball rallies to comeback and defeat Southwest Minnesota State 11-7

            Southwest
Minnesota State jumped out to an early 7-1 lead.  The visiting Mustangs scored three runs in the first, and Sandel answered with a solo homer for Wayne State in the bottom half of the inning. The Mustangs then erupted for four runs on six hits in the second.  
            
The Wildcat offense took over from there, scoring three runs in three straight innings. Nielsen delivered a two-run triple, and Williams added an RBI groundout in the third to pull WSC back within three (7-4). Aeriell Earleywine and King each had RBI singles, and Sandel added an RBI groundout in the fourth to tie the score at 7-7. 

            WSC grabbed a 10-7 lead with another big inning in the fifth.  Kassie Nurton came through with a key RBI single, and Earleywine smacked a two-run double to push the Wildcat lead to three.  The Wildcats added an insurance run in the sixth on an RBI double by Williams, and the 'Cats secured the 11-7 win. 

            Jordan Harris picked up the win on the mound after allowing four runs on 10 hits in seven innings of work.  The Wildcats pounded 12 hits in the contest.  Earleywine led the way with two hits and three runs batted in.  Chelsie Evans (4-1) suffered the loss on the mound for the Mustangs.  Ashley Gigax had two hits and four batted in for SMSU. 

            Wayne State hosts Washburn University on Sunday.  First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. in Wayne.
