Kelcie Bormann fired a six-hit shutout as Wayne State College capped a perfect weekend at home with an 8-2 and 5-0 sweep over MSU Moorhead in Northern Sun Conference softball played Sunday afternoon at the Pete Chapman Softball Complex in Wayne. WSC improves to 19-9 overall and 5-1 in the NSIC while MSU Moorhead drops to 5-10 and 1-5 in league play.
The opener saw
Kaiti Williams and
Kelcie Bormann each record three hits as the Wildcats picked up the 8-2 win.
After MSU Moorhead took a 2-0 lead in the second, WSC knotted the score at 2-2 with a pair of runs in the third. WSC took the lead for good in the fourth with two runs as
Kaiti Williams hit an RBI single followed by an RBI double by
Kelcie Bormann.
The 'Cats put the game out of reach in the fifth with four runs, highlighted by
Shelby Wobken's pinch-hit RBI double and an RBI double from Williams to make the final score 8-2.
WSC had 13 hits in the win, led by
Kaiti Williams going a perfect 3 for 3 with two doubles and two RBI's while Bormann was 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI's.
Melanie Alyea added two hits in the win.
Junior
Sara Scheffert earned the complete game win, allowing seven hits and two runs with six strikeouts and three walks.
The second game saw Bormann fire a six-hit shutout while O'Brien and Wobken homered to lead the Wildcats in a 5-0 win over the Dragons.
A three-run first inning was capped by O'Brien's two-run homer to right center field, her sixth long ball of the season. WSC scored again in the third for a 4-0 lead and closed the scoring in the sixth when Wobken belted a pinch-hit solo homer down the right field line for a 5-0 win.
Wayne State had seven hits in the win, led by O'Brien going 2 for 3 with a two run homer and two RBI's. Williams also went 2 for 2 while Wobken added a pinch-hit homer.
Bormann raised her season record to 10-1 with the shutout win in the circle, allowing just six hits with eight strikeouts and one walk.
Wayne State is scheduled to visit Upper Iowa in a Tuesday doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
