Game 1 - University of Mary 13 Wayne State 2Game 2 - University of Mary 3 Wayne State 2 The University of Mary slammed six home runs, including a walk-off solo homer in the bottom of the seventh in the second game, to sweep Wayne State 13-2 and 3-2 in Northern Sun Conference softball played Friday afternoon at the U-Mary Field in Bismarck, North Dakota. With the losses, the Wildcats fall to 32-16 overall and 18-8 in league play.
The host Marauders scored four runs in three different innings to roll past the Wildcats in the opener 13-2.
WSC scored single runs in the first and fourth innings. In the first,
Megan Hagemann reached on a fielder's choice and later scored on a
Kelcie Bormann double down the left field line. In the fourth, Hagemann doubled and scored on a
Kaiti Williams double to right field.
The Wildcats were held to just three hits in the opener, doubles by Bormann, Hagemann and Williams.
Sara Scheffert was the losing pitcher, falling to 17-10 on the season. She allowed six runs on five hits. Sophomore
Cassy Miller pitched the final two innings and was charged with seven runs on eight hits with one walk and one strikeout.
The second game saw Mary win on a walk-off homer with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 3-2 win over WSC to complete the sweep.
WSC scored both runs in the third inning to take a 2-1 lead. Hagemann singled to left field and scored on a
Kaiti Williams home run. Mary tied the score at 2-2 with a single run in the fifth and then won on the homer in the seventh.
WSC out-hit the Marauders 8-5.
Jordan King was 2 for 4 with a pair of singles. Williams homered and drove in two runs while Hagemann, Bormann,
Monique Alyea,
Sam O'Brien and
Lexie Loos each singled.
Junior
Kelcie Bormann suffered the pitching loss, now 16-4 on the season. She allowed three runs on five hits with three strikeouts and one walk.
Wayne State will visit Minot State Saturday at noon to close out their final road trip of the regular season.
