Logan Masters named interim offensive coordinator at Wayne State College

1/19/2015 4:47:00 PM

Wayne State College head football coach Dan McLaughlin announced today that Logan Masters has been named interim offensive coordinator for the Wildcat football program.
"I am pleased to announce the promotion of wide receivers coach Logan Masters to the position of offensive coordinator for the Wayne State football program," said McLaughlin.  "Logan has been a Wildcat since we recruited him out of Storm Lake, Iowa in 2008 and he knows our offensive scheme better than anyone.  He is also a valued and tireless recruiter."
McLaughlin added, "In the middle of the recruiting season, we decided to name him on an interim basis.  It allows a speedy and seamless transition and eliminates a break in our recruiting, which is so critical at this time.  We are thrilled that Logan is continuing his career as a Wildcat and look forward to the contributions he will bring to Wildcat football."
Masters, a Storm Lake, Iowa native, has coached tight ends or wide receivers with the Wildcat program for five seasons following a standout playing career at Wayne State as a receiver from 2006-09.  He served as an intern coaching tight ends in the 2010 season, was a graduate assistant coach working with wide receivers in 2011 and 2012 and served as the wide receivers coach the past two seasons (2013-14).
As a player, Masters set numerous receiving records during his playing career including career catches (258) and career receiving yards (3,863).  He set a then NCAA Division II record by catching at least two passes in 46 consecutive games (every game he played at Wayne State).
During his senior season, Masters was one of 24 candidates for the Harlon Hill Trophy, given to the top player in NCAA Division II college football, after recording 70 catches for 894 yards and 5 TD's while earning First Team All-NSIC honors.  As a junior in 2008, Masters hauled in a career-high 80 receptions for 1,179 yards to earn First Team All-NSIC and Daktronics First Team All-Super Region 3 honors while helping WSC to a 9-3 record and the school's first-ever trip to the NCAA Division II playoffs.  Masters had 64 catches for 1,097 yards as a sophomore, making him the first-ever WSC receiver to record back-to-back 1,000 yard receiving seasons.
Masters replaces John McMenamin, who left Wayne State earlier this month to become offensive coordinator at Central Missouri.
Wayne State College is an NCAA Division II school located in Wayne, Nebraska and competes in the 16-team Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.  The Wildcats finished the 2014 season with a 5-6 overall record, tied for fourth in the NSIC South with a 3-4 divisional mark.
