Wayne State 6 Central Missouri 4 The Wayne State College softball team opened the 2015 season Friday night with a 6-4 win over Central Missouri at the Kelly Laas Memorial Invitational Dome Tournament played in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
Wayne State trailed 4-3 after three innings, but scored two runs in the fifth to take the lead for good at 5-4 and added an insurance run in the top of the seventh for a 6-4 lead.
The Wildcats were led offensively by senior right fielder
Kaiti Williams, who was 2 for 3 at the plate with two RBI's and three runs scored. Junior shortstop
Sam O'Brien was 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBI's.
Junior centerfielder
Lexie Loos was 1 for 3 with a double and two runs scored while
Jordan King,
Megan Hagemann and
Rachel Shumaker each had hits for the Wildcats in the win.
Wayne State had nine hits in the game to seven for Central Missouri.
Senior
Kelcie Bormann earned the pitching win, firing a complete game. She allowed four runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and four walks.
The Wildcats will play two more games in St. Cloud on Saturday, facing #6 Emporia State at 8 a.m. and Missouri Western in a 12:30 p.m. contest.
