#6 Emporia State 9 Wayne State 2 #6 Emporia State pounded out 13 hits and took advantage of three Wayne State errors as the Hornets recorded a 9-2 win over Wayne State Saturday morning at the Kelly Laas Memorial Invitational Softball Tournament played in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Emporia State moves to 7-1 on the season with the win while WSC falls to 1-1.
Emporia State scored two runs in the first and second innings and put the game out of reach with a four-run fourth inning. WSC scored single runs in the first and third innings as the Wildcats were out hit 13-7 in the contest.
Wayne State scored in the first inning when junior
Lexie Loos singled and crossed the plate on an RBI double by
Kaiti Williams. The 'Cats plated their other run in the third inning when Loos singled and later scored on a
Jordan King single.
Loos led WSC at the plate, going 2 for 4 with two runs scored. Williams and
Shelby Wobken each doubled while King,
Becca Kalhorn and
Alyssa Schropp each recorded singles.
Kelcie Bormann (1-1) suffered the pitching loss, charged with nine runs (four earned) on eight hits with five strikeouts and four walks. Junior
Sarah Macias worked the final 2 1/3 innings and allowed no runs on five hits with one walk and one strikeout.
Wayne State was scheduled to play Missouri Western in a 12:30 p.m. game Saturday afternoon in St. Cloud.
