Late rally gives Fort Hays State shocking 7-6 win over Wildcats

            Fort Hays State scored five runs with two outs and no runners on base in the bottom of the sixth inning to shock Wayne State College 7-6 Sunday morning at the Kelly Laas Memorial Invitational Softball Tournament played at the Husky Dome in St. Cloud, Minnesota.  WSC falls to 2-2 with the loss while the Tigers improve to 3-5.
            After trailing 2-0 in the first inning, WSC plated four runs in the third and single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 6-2 advantage.  But Fort Hays State made the most of their five hits and took advantage of 11 walks by Wayne State pitching and scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth on three hits, three walks and one Wildcat error to rally for the win.
            WSC did have a chance to tie the game in the top of the seventh as leadoff batter Lexie Loos was hit by a pitch and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Jordan King.  But Kaiti Williams lined out to third and Kelcie Bormann lined out to shortstop to end the game as Fort Hays State rallied for the win.
            The Wildcats had eight hits in the game to just five by Fort Hays State.  Senior Kaiti Williams was 2 for 4 with two RBI's while Alyssa Schropp finished 2 for 3 with a double and RBI.  Melanie Alyea hit a solo homer and scored twice while Loos doubled.
            Senior Kelcie Bormann (1-2) suffered the pitching loss, yielding seven runs on five hits with 11 walks and seven strikeouts.
            Wayne State will conclude play at the Kelly Laas Memorial Invite in St. Cloud on Sunday afternoon in a 12:30 p.m. contest against Nebraska-Kearney.
