Sara Scheffert made her first start of the season and worked four innings to earn the win as Wayne State topped Slippery Rock of Pennsylvania 5-2 Wednesday afternoon at the National Training Center Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. The Wildcats improve to 9-2 on the season while Slippery Rock drops to 2-5.
WSC opened the scoring in the first when King doubled and scored when
Sam O'Brien reached on an error.
The Wildcats took a 4-0 lead in the second as King produced a two-run single that scored
Megan Hagemann (single) and
Alyssa Schropp (error) while
Lexie Loos singled and later scored on a wild pitch.
Slippery Rock scored in the top of the fourth to make the score 4-1, but WSC got the run back in the bottom of the fourth when Schropp singled and King came through with another run-scoring single that scored pinch-runner
Jalyn Zeiss to put WSC in front 5-1.
Slippery Rock closed out the scoring with one run in the seventh to make the final score 5-2.
