Central Missouri 5 Wayne State 1

            WSC allowed four unearned runs in the first two innings due to three errors as the Wildcats fell to Central Missouri 5-1 Friday afternoon in the first game of the Apple Market Classic Softball Tournament hosted by Missouri Western in St. Joseph, Missouri.  WSC drops to 11-4 while the Jennies improve to 16-6.
            UCM scored one run in the first and three more in the second for a 4-0 lead.  WSC scored its lone run of the game in the fourth inning when Melanie Alyea's single scored Kaiti Williams, who walked to lead off the inning.  The Jennies closed out the scoring with one run in the fifth to make the final score 5-1.
            Central Missouri had one more hit than Wayne State, 8-7.  Junior shortstop Sam O'Brien went 3 for 3 at the plate with a double and two singles.  Williams doubled and scored Wayne State's lone run while Melanie Alyea, Shelby Wobken and Alyssa Schropp each singled.
            Cassy Miller (3-1) suffered the pitching loss, charged with six hits and four runs (all unearned) over four innings of work with three strikeouts and one walk.  Sarah Macias faced two batters in the fifth inning and allowed one run (unearned) on two hits while senior Sara Scheffert closed the game with two innings of hitless relief with two strikeouts.
