Wayne State 4 Washburn 3 Kaiti Williams came through with a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning that scored
Lexie Loos and
Jordan King with the go-ahead runs as Wayne State rallied for a 4-3 win over Washburn Saturday morning at the Apple Market Classic Softball Tournament in St. Joseph, Missouri. WSC improves to 13-4 on the season with Washburn falling to 15-9.
The game was tied 2-2 after two innings with Washburn taking the lead on a single run in the fourth inning until Williams' heroics in the sixth inning to give WSC the win.
Wayne State scored in the first when
Lexie Loos singled and scored on a
Sam O'Brien single. In the second,
Megan Hagemann doubled and cross the plate on an
Alyssa Schropp double to knot the game at 2-2.
Trailing 3-2 entering the bottom of the sixth, WSC used singles from Loos and
Jordan King followed by a
Kaiti Williams double that scored Loos and King with the go-ahead runs.
Wayne State had nine hits to seven for Washburn. Williams was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBI's while Loos finished 2 for 4 with two runs scored. Hagemann and Schropp each had doubles for the Wildcats.
Sara Scheffert pitched the first 4 1/3 innings for Wayne State, allowing seven hits and three runs (one earned).
Kelcie Bormann (8-3) picked up the win in relief, working the final 2 2/3 innings without allowing a runner with five strikeouts.
