Wildcat bats silent in 7-1 loss at Missouri Western

            Wayne State managed just three singles against Missouri Western starting pitcher Shyanne Saladino as the host Griffons roared past the Wildcats 7-1 Sunday morning at the Apple Market Classic Softball Tournament in St. Joseph, Missouri.  MWSU is now 20-9 with the win while dropping Wayne State to 14-5.
            Missouri Western scored two runs in the first and second innings to take an early 4-0 lead.  WSC scored its lone run in the third inning when Shelby Wobken walked and scored on a Jordan King single. 
            The host Griffons got the run back in the bottom of the third inning for a 5-1 lead and added two insurance runs in the fifth to make the final score 7-1.
            Missouri Western had 11 hits in the game to just three by the Wildcats, singles from King, Sam O'Brien and Melanie Alyea.
            Sara Scheffert (2-1) was tagged with the pitching loss, allowing five runs on eight hits with three walks and two strikeouts.  Cassy Miller worked the final three innings and gave up three hits and two runs with four strikeouts and one walk.
            Wayne State will close out play at the Apple Market Classic on Sunday afternoon with a 3 p.m. game against Central Oklahoma.
