Wayne State 12 St. Thomas Aquinas College 1 (5 inn.) Wayne State College used a seven-run second inning while scoring 12 runs in the first three innings to cruise past St. Thomas Aquinas College of New York 12-1 Sunday afternoon in the Wildcats' first game on their annual spring softball trip at the National Training Center Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. WSC moves to 4-2 on the season while St. Thomas Aquinas falls to 1-3.
The Wildcats scored three runs in the first inning. Big hits in the inning included a double by
Kaiti Williams, run-scoring singles by
Megan Hagemann and
Sam O'Brien and a single by
Lexie Loos.
WSC took a 10-0 lead in the second inning thanks to a seven-run explosion. Hagemann produced a two-run homer in the inning O'Brien and Williams each added run-scoring singles.
St. Thomas Aquinas scored its lone run of the game in the top of the third while WSC countered with two runs in the bottom of the third to make the final score 12-1.
Wayne State had 14 hits in the contest to just one by St. Thomas Aquinas.
Lexie Loos and
Sam O'Brien each went 3 for 3 at the plate to lead the Wildcats offensively. Both players scored two runs while O'Brien had two RBI's.
Megan Hagemann was 2 for 2 with a homer and two RBI's while
Kaiti Williams finished 2 for 2 with a double and two runs scored.
Kelcie Bormann (2-2) was the winning pitcher for the Wildcats recording eight strikeouts while allowing two walks.
