Kelcie Bormann pitched a complete game, holding off a seventh inning rally by California (Pa.), to edge the Vulcans 2-1 Monday evening at the National Training Center Spring Softball Games in Clermont, Florida. WSC improves to 7-2 overall and 4-0 on the spring break trip to Florida.
WSC scored both runs in the fifth inning as
Jordan King produced a two-run single that scored pinch runner
Jalyn Zeiss and
Lexie Loos for a 2-0 lead.
The Vulcans used a triple, single and walk to score one run and put the tying run on second base, but Bormann got a strikeout and groundout to end the game as Wayne State held on for the 2-1 win.
WSC had seven hits with Loos going a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate with three singles, a double and run scored.
Sam O'Brien,
Kaiti Williams and
Jordan King each had singles.
Bormann (4-2) recorded the pitching win, firing a complete game with nine strikeouts and five walks with four hits allowed.
Wayne State is off on Tuesday and will resume play on Wednesday with games against Kutztown (Pa.) at 9 a.m. and Slippery Rock (Pa.) at 11 a.m. at the National Training Center Spring Games in Clermont, Florida.
