Cassy Miller struck out 11 batters while firing a complete game to lead the Wayne State College softball team in a 5-1 win over Maryville (Mo.) at the National Training Center Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. WSC improves to 6-2 with the win while dropping Maryville to 1-6.
WSC spotted Maryville a 1-0 lead in the first. After giving up two doubles and one walk in the first inning to spot Maryville a 1-0 lead, Miller dominated the rest of the game in striking out 11 batters to help Wayne State pick up the win.
The Wildcats plated two runs in the second inning, two more in the fifth and an insurance run in the sixth inning.
WSC had eight hits to just three for Maryville. Junior centerfielder
Lexie Loos was 2 for 3 with a two run homer and two RBI's while
Kaiti Williams and
Alyssa Schropp each went 2 for 3 at the plate with Williams recording a triple.
Melanie Alyea doubled while
Sam O'Brien singled.
Miller improved to 3-0 on the season with the win, allowing three hits and one run with 11 strikeouts and two walks.
