The Wayne State College softball team rebounded from a disappointing doubleheader sweep at Bemidji State Saturday by winning two games Sunday at Minnesota Crookston 9-3 and 9-4 in Northern Sun Conference softball played in Crookston, Minnesota.  WSC is now 24-14 on the season and 10-8 in league play while UMC drops to 4-32 and 0-18 in the NSIC.
Statistics from the first game were not available, although one highlight for the Wildcats was a grand slam home run by junior shortstop Sam O'Brien in the 9-3 victory.
The second game saw sophomore first baseman Melanie Alyea hit a three-run homer to lead a balanced hitting attack as the Wildcats completed the sweep with a 9-4 victory.
Trailing 2-1 heading into the third inning, WSC took the lead for good with two runs on a Kaiti Williams RBI double and a run-scoring single from Kelcie Bormann for a 3-2 Wildcat lead.
WSC put the game out of reach with a four-run fifth inning, highlighted by a three-run homer from Alyea, that gave WSC a 7-3 lead.
The Wildcat closed out the scoring in the sixth on a two-run single by Bormann to cap a 12-hit attack.
Alyea was one of four Wildcats to have two hits in the game, going 2 for 4 with a homer, double and three RBI.  Bormann finished 2 for 4 with three RBI while Williams was 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored.  Lexie Loos also went 2 for 4 with two runs scored for the Wildcats.
Bormann pitched a complete game win for the Wildcats, improving to 13-7 on the season.  She gave up four runs (one earned) on six hits with six strikeouts and one walk.
