Game 1 - Wayne State 13 Sioux Falls 7

Game 2 - Sioux Falls 3 Wayne State 2 (8 inn.)

In a tale of two games that took five hours and 50 minutes to play, the Wayne State College softball team won a slugfest in the opener 13-7 before falling 3-2 in eight innings in the second game of a Northern Sun Conference doubleheader at the University of Sioux Falls.  The Wildcats are now 25-15 overall and 11-9 in the NSIC while the host Cougars are now 21-17 and 7-11 in conference play.
The first game saw the Wildcats produce a season-high 19 hits while matching a season-high with 13 runs to win a 13-7 slugfest over the Cougars.
USF held a 4-0 lead after two innings and led 5-2 after three innings.  WSC took the lead for good with a four-run fourth inning, highlighted by a two-run homer from Jordan King, a solo homer by Kaiti Williams and an RBI triple from Lexie Loos.
WSC took an 8-5 lead in the fifth thanks to a two-run single by King.  Kelcie Bormann hit a solo homer in the sixth inning to put the 'Cats in front 9-5.
After USF scored twice to get within 9-7, the Wildcats added four insurance runs in the top of the seventh for a 13-7 win.  Bormann and Melanie Alyea each accounted for two-run singles for big hits in the inning.
Loos went a perfect 4 for 4 with four runs scored to lead Wayne State's 19-hit barrage.  King was also 4 for 4 with four RBI's and three runs scored that included a home run.  Bormann ended up 3 for 4 with a homer and four RBI's while Sam O'Brien finished 3 for 5 with a double.
Junior Cassy Miller (7-3) was the winning pitcher in relief of starter Sara Scheffert.  Miller struck out eight batters in the final four innings, allowing just two runs on six hits.  Scheffert worked the first three innings, charged with five runs on five hits with four walks and one strikeout.
The second game saw Sioux Falls starter Alyson Netty out-duel Wildcat starter Kelcie Bormann as the Cougars edged Wayne State 3-2 in eight innings to gain a split of the twinbill.
USF held a 1-0 lead after five innings of play, but WSC scored two runs on three hits in the top of the sixth to take a 2-1 lead.  Megan Hagemann singled with pinch runner Jalyn Zeiss scoring on a Jordan King single to tie the score at 1-1.  Kelcie Bormann was later hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Lexie Loos, who singled, to put the 'Cats in front 2-1.
But USF tied the score with a run in the bottom of the sixth and won the game in the bottom of the eighth for a 3-2 win.
Sioux Falls had one more hit than Wayne State 10-9.  Loos finished 2 for 4 with a double and run scored.  Hagemann was 2 for 3 with a pair of singles while King and Bormann each added two singles in the loss.
Bormann (13-8) suffered the pitching loss despite striking out 11 batters in the contest.  She was charged with 10 hits and three runs over 7 2/3 innings with two walks and 11 strikeouts for her fourth game of 10 or more strikeouts this season.
Wayne State returns home to the Pete Chapman Softball Complex Thursday for the start of an eight-game home stand in seven days, hosting Washburn in a non-conference doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
