Game 1 - Southwest Minnesota State 4 Wayne State 3

Game 2 - Wayne State 5 Southwest Minnesota State 2

A late rally in the first game by Southwest Minnesota State cost Wayne State College a sweep in Northern Sun Conference softball Wednesday afternoon at Mustang Field in Marshall, Minnesota.  The doubleheader was moved from Wayne to Marshall due to weather conditions.  WSC is now 22-12 on the season and 8-6 in the NSIC while SMSU is 17-17 and 6-6 in league play.
The Mustangs scored three runs in the top of the seventh for a 4-3 win over the Wildcats while WSC came back to win the second game 5-2 thanks to a complete game three hitter from junior Cassy Miller.
Despite being outhit 10-7 in the opener, WSC appeared to be on their way to victory.  The 'Cats built a 2-0 lead in the third thanks to an RBI double from Kaiti Williams and a run-scoring single by Lexie Loos.
After SMSU pulled within 2-1 in the top of the fourth, WSC took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a solo homer from Williams.
But the Mustangs shocked WSC in the top of the seventh with three runs on three hits, two WSC walks and a passed ball to rally for the surprising 4-3 win.
Williams finished 2 for 4 with a homer, double and two RBI's.  Loos was 2 for 4 with a pair of singles.  Shelby Wobken doubled while Sam O'Brien and Kelcie Bormann each singled.
Junior reliever Cassy Miller (5-3) suffered the pitching loss in place of starter Sara Scheffert.  Miller was charged with three runs on two hits in 1 2/3 innings with three strikeouts and two walks.
The second game saw Loos go 3 for 4 at the plate with a pair of triples while Miller fired a complete game three-hitter to help the Wildcats gain a split with a 5-2 win over the Mustangs.
WSC took a quick 3-0 lead in the first, thanks to a Loos triple, RBI singles from Williams and Megan Hagemann and an RBI double by Bormann.
The 'Cats took a 4-0 lead in the third on a Bormann solo homer.  After SMSU scored their only run of the game in the top of the fourth to make the score 4-1, WSC got the run back in the bottom of the inning when Loos tripled again and scored on a Williams double to right center field.
SMSU closed out the scoring with a run in the top of the seventh for the 5-2 Wildcat victory.
WSC had nine hits in the game to just three for SMSU.  Loos led the way with her 3 for 4 day at the plate and two triples.  Bormann finished 2 for 2 with a homer, double and two RBI's.  Williams was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI's while Hagemann went 2 for 3 with an RBI.
Miller improved to 6-3 on the season with the win, firing a complete game.  She allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits with six strikeouts and no walks.
Wayne State will be on the road again this weekend, visiting Bemidji State Saturday at 12 p.m. and Minnesota Crookston Sunday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
