The Wayne State College softball team opens the 2016 season this weekend playing in the Arkansas Monticello 8-State Classic Tournament in Bentonville, Arkansas. Every team WSC plays this weekend has already played at least four games or more this season. The Wildcats open play Friday morning at 11 a.m. vs. Southeastern Oklahoma State and will also play Southern Arkansas Friday at 3 p.m. Saturday's action finds the Wildcats facing Henderson State (Ark.) at 9 a.m. and Arkansas Monticello at 11 a.m. while Sunday's schedule has WSC playing at 9 a.m. vs. East Central (Okla.) and 11 a.m. against Emporia State.
Wayne State College is picked to finish seventh in this year's NSIC Preseason Softball Coaches' Poll after finishing the 2015 season with a 34-21 record, placing fifth in the NSIC at 18-12 in league play. It was the ninth consecutive winning season for the Wildcat program.
