            Wayne State closed out the regular season in style Sunday afternoon at the Pete Chapman Softball Complex in Wayne with convincing 8-0 and 14-2 victories over Concordia-St. Paul in Northern Sun Conference softball.  The Wildcats improved to 27-24 overall and 21-9 in the NSIC while the Golden Bears finish 12-36 and 6-22 in league play.
            The opener saw senior Sam O'Brien homer while fellow senior Cassy Miller fired a one-hit shutout in an 8-0 win in five innings.
            O'Brien's two-run blast highlighted a four-run first for WSC along with an RBI single by Melanie Alyea.
            WSC took a 7-0 lead in the second on Abbie Hix's two-run single and an RBI single from Emily Chandler.
            The 'Cats closed out the scoring in the third on Katelyn Wobken's single to score Alyssa Schropp.
            WSC had 12 hits in the win, led by Katelyn Wobken going 3 for 3 with two runs scored.  Lexie Loos was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and became the all-time leader in runs scored at WSC with 156, passing Amy Sandtrom's previous mark of 154 from 2007-10.  Alyea and Schropp each finished 2 for 3 while O'Brien homered.
            Miller (20-15) was the winning pitcher, striking out seven and walking two in five innings of work while allowing just one hit for her fourth shutout of the year.
            The second game saw WSC post 11 runs in the first inning on 11 hits as the Wildcats cruised to a 14-2 win in five innings to complete the Senior Day sweep.
            Chandler produced a two-run homer and RBI single in the first inning as WSC sent 16 batters to the plate in the first frame.  Other big hits included a two-run double from Hix and a two-run single by Caitlin Fehringer.
            Katelyn Wobken's three-run homer in the second inning rounded out Wayne State's scoring to give WSC the 14-2 win.
            Wayne State had 13 hits in the win, led by Hix going 3 for 3 with two RBI.  Chandler was 2 for 3 with three RBI and a homer while O'Brien and Alyea each contributed two hits for the Wildcats.  With Chandler's three RBI in the win, she set a new single season school record for runs batted in with 52, breaking the old mark of 50 set by Michelle Lewis in 2000.
            All three seniors pitched in the second game win, led by Miller who worked three innings to get the win.  She allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits.  Shelby Wobken retired all three batters in the fourth inning and Sarah Macias closed the game by retiring all three batters in the final inning.
            Wayne State awaits pairings for the 2016 NSIC Softball Tournament that starts Thursday in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
