#22 Wayne State forced 27 attack errors and held Grand Valley State to a -.027 attack percentage as the Wildcat volleyball cruised to a 25-14, 25-8, 25-19 sweep over the Lakers Friday afternoon at the 2019 Shark Invitational Volleyball Tournament held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The Wildcats stay unbeaten on the season with the win at 6-0 while GVSU is now 3-3.
The Wildcat defense set the tone immediately in the contest, forcing 11 Grand Valley attack errors in the opening set as WSC never trailed to post a 25-14 set win.
WSC continued their strong defensive play in the second set, forcing eight more Laker attack errors while allowing just three kills as the Wildcats cruised to a 25-8 second set victory.
The third set was closer between the two clubs, featuring seven ties and three lead changes.
Grand Valley State took an early 7-2 lead, but WSC scored the next seven points for a 9-7 lead that included six straight points served by senior
Morgan Alexander that included two service aces.
The two teams traded the lead several times with Grand Valley's last lead coming at 15-14. The 'Cats used a
Maddie Knobbe kill and forced two attack errors on the Lakers to take the lead for good at 17-15 and extended the lead for the 25-19 final set score.
Wayne State hit .234 in the match with 33 kills on 94 attacks and 11 errors while holding the Lakers to a -.027 attack percentage with 24 kills, 27 errors on 110 attempts. The Wildcats had 10 more digs than GVSU, 54-44, and held a 10-8 edge in blocks over the Lakers. WSC also had eight service aces to just two for Grand Valley State.

Wayne State will face Florida Tech at 9:30 a.m. and Southern New Hampshire in a 2:30 p.m. match Saturday to close out play at the 2019 Shark Invitational in Florida.
