The inaugural beach volleyball season at Wayne State College begins Monday when the Wildcats play three matches in Kansas City, Missouri. Wayne State will face Ottawa University at 11 a.m. followed by matches against Missouri Baptist at 1 p.m. and the Missouri Baptist JV at 3 p.m.
"We are very excited to get our inaugural beach season underway," remarked Wildcat head coach
Scott Kneifl. "Our team has been trying to simulate game situations to the best of our capabilities in practice and we are very excited to hit the sand and play someone besides ourselves."
Following three matches to open the season on Monday, Wayne State will face Park University (Mo.) in Lincoln at Saturday, February 22
nd at 1 p.m. followed by a contest at Nebraska vs. the Huskers on Thursday, March 5
th at 2:30 p.m.
The Wildcats will play their first matches on an actual beach in California during their spring break trip March 12-14 when Wayne State plays six teams in Carlsbad, Hermosa Beach and Irvine, California.
"We know how different this sport is compared to indoor volleyball but we feel the training time and multiple touches will make our players more well-rounded," added Kneifl. "It's a very exciting time for our volleyball program."
