Wayne State College defeated Erskine College of South Carolina 3-0 Sunday morning to open play in the Copper Bracket at the AVCA Small College Beach Volleyball Championships in Gulf Shores, Alabama. The 'Cats are now 12-7 following the win while the Erskine College Fleet end their season with a record of 14-20.
The Wildcat 1s pairing of
Anna Borner and
Taylor Bunjer rallied for a 17-21, 21-17, 15-8 victory over Erskine's Reka Mellinger and Abigail Platt. The 2s duo of
Channatee Robles and
Chloe Hanel needed extra points to cap a win over Ella Dietrich and Elisa Vigneron from Erskine 21-14, 23-21 while the 3s team of
Reese Johnson and
Mattie Kamery picked up their third straight win at the AVCA Championships with a convincing 21-9, 21-9 win against Mackenzie Fa'apouli and Hannah Platt.
Wayne State will play Catawba College of North Carolina for the Copper Bracket Championship Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
