The Wayne State College beach volleyball team had a successful debut Monday in Kansas City winning two of three matches.
The Wildcats started with a 3-2 defeat vs. Missouri Baptist followed by a 4-1 victory against Ottawa University of Kansas and a 5-0 win over the Ottawa JV. WSC won 14 of 18 matches and every Wildcat player recorded at least one victory in their first ever beach competition.
In the Missouri Baptist match the duo of
Jordan McCormick and
Kelsie Cada won their match 21-14 and 21-12 and
Jacee Weber and
Elly Larson won in straight sets 21-18, 21-19.
Wayne State's #1 team of
Jaci Brahmer and
Hope Carter opened the Ottawa University dual with a 21-17, 21-14 win. Other Wildcat wins were recorded by
Kelsie Cada/
Jordan McCormick by scores 21-7, 21-9,
Alyssa Ballenger and
Rachel Walker recorded a 2-0 win in the #3 match followed by a 21-7, 21-16 win by
Jacee Weber/
Elly Larson in the #5 contest.
Maggie Brahmer and
Lauren Jacobsen won the #6 match by a score of 21-18, 16-21, 15-7
The Wildcats concluded the day with a 5-0 win over Ottawa University #2 team recording sweeps in all five matches plus a victory by
Taya Beller/
Jessie Brandl in an extra match 21-14, 21-12.
The Wildcats next match will take place on Saturday, February 22 in Lincoln as Wayne State battles Park University of Missouri at 1 p.m.
