The Wayne State College beach volleyball team won one match and took two others to a third set before falling to the Nebraska Cornhuskers 4-1 Thursday afternoon in a beach volleyball dual played at the Hawks Championship Center in Lincoln. The Wildcats are now 3-2 on the season while Nebraska improves to 6-3.
The Wildcats recorded their first win in the #3 match when the freshmen duo of
Kelsie Cada and
Jordan McCormick won 24-22 and 14-6 in the second set by injury default over Nebraska's Jazz Sweet and Lexi Sun.
The #2 match saw Wayne State's
Alyssa Ballenger and
Maddie Duffy force three sets with Nebraska's Madi Kubik and Kenzie Knuckles. The Huskers won the first set 21-18 followed by a Wildcat win of 21-10 in the second set before Kubik and Knuckles won the third set 15-12.
Wayne State's #6 team of
Taya Beller and
Rachel Walker battled Nebraska's Fallon Stutheit and Nicole Drewnick to three sets before falling 21-15, 17-21 and 15-13.
Wayne State will take their spring break trip next week to California where the Wildcats will play matches Tuesday through Friday against a list of opponents to be finalized by this weekend.
