Pittsburg State scored in every inning to defeat Wayne State College 17-5 Sunday afternoon at the Alvy Early Memorial Tournament in Bentonville, Arkansas. WSC slipped to 0-3 on the year while Pittsburg State improved to 5-0.
The Gorillas scored one run in the first and three more in the second for an early 4-0 advantage.
WSC matched the Pittsburg State three run second and cut the deficit to 4-3.
Paiton Tornberg was hit by a pitch and later scored on a Gorilla error for the first Wildcat run.
Riley Holmberg singled and later scored when
Mary Krystofiak reached on an error with the third run coming on a
Kortney Buresh RBI single scoring
Natalie Arbizu, who walked earlier in the inning.
Pittsburg State produced four runs in the third and three more in the fourth for an 11-3 lead.
The Wildcats got one run in the fourth on a two-out rally when senior shortstop
Kim Vidlak singled, stole second and scored on a Gorilla error after
Jenna Etmans singled.
The Gorillas put the game out of reach with six runs in the top of the fifth inning while WSC closed out the scoring with a single run in the bottom of the frame when Tornberg doubled and pinch-runner
Abby Husing later scored on an RBI groundout from
Madison Gomez to make the final score 17-5.
Pittsburg State had 14 hits in the game to nine for the Wildcats. Vidlak, Etmans and Holmberg each had two singles for WSC. Tornberg doubled with Buresh and
Kamryn Sparks each adding singles.

Hadley Chvatal worked the first two innings and suffered the loss (0-2). Freshman Sami Felt pitched one inning, freshman
