SMSU Spring Golf Invitational Final Results

            The Wayne State College women's golf team shot a final day round of 328 to place seventh out of 12 teams at the Southwest Minnesota State Spring Invitational that concluded Tuesday afternoon at Wigwam Golf Course in Litchfield Park, Arizona.  The Wildcats finished the 36-hole, two-day tournament with a score of 658 (330-328).
            UC-Colorado Springs edged Nebraska-Kearney for the team title 633-635 with Missouri Western a close third at 639, one stroke better than fourth place Western New Mexico at 640.
            Northwest Missouri State finished fifth with a 647 followed by host Southwest Minnesota State at 657, one stroke better than Wayne State (658) and two strokes ahead of eighth place Minnesota State at 659.  Stonehill (677), Minnesota Crookston (728), Bemidji State (741) and MSU Moorhead (752) filled out the 12 teams in the tournament.
            Millard North sophomore Jazmine Taylor was the top Wildcat finisher, placing 11th overall out of a field of 80 players with a 36-hole total of 159 after shooting rounds of 80 and 79.  Sophomore Mekky Winyarat was right behind in a tie for 13th place at 161 with rounds of 79 and 82.
            Bancroft junior Paige Peters followed in a tie for 37th overall at 168 (86-82) with sophomore Abbey Kurmel 42nd overall with a score of 170 (85-85) and freshman Abbigail Brodersen in a tie for 54th at 179 after shooting 88 and 91.
            Individually, sophomore Tricia Hemann ended in a tie for 37th overall posting a 168 (83-85) and Viktoria Bortkiewicz-Hamelin shot 191 (97-94) to finish in a tie for 68th.   
            Wayne State resumes their spring golf season March 28 and 29 at the Missouri Western/Holiday Inn Express Invitational in St. Joseph, Missouri.
