Wayne State College swept Catawba College (NC) 5-0 Saturday morning in the opening Bronze Division Playoff match at the AVCA Small College Beach Championships held in Tavares, Florida at Hickory Point Beach. Wayne State is now 13-6 on the season.
Two of the five matches went three sets.
Ally Beresford and
Brooke Peltz rallied in the 4's pairing to win 17-21, 23-21, 17-15 while the #5 pairing of
Rachel Walker and
Maggie Brahmer also rallied for a 12-21, 21-18, 15-9 victory.
The #1 pairing of
Taya Beller and Lauren Jacobson went extra points in the second set to win 21-16, 22-20,
Kelsie Cada and
Jordan McCormick in the 2's duo won easily 21-7 and 21-8 and the #3 duo of
Isabelle Vacek and
Jessie Brandl recorded a 21-11, 21-18 win.
Wayne State will play Eckerd (Fla) at 1 p.m. in another Bronze Division playoff match Saturday afternoon at the AVCA Small College Beach Volleyball Championships in Tavares, Florida.
