Moeller sets new school record in long jump at South Dakota Challenge

            Pierce freshman Logan Moeller set a new school record in the long jump and was third in the triple jump for the Wayne State men at South Dakota Track and Field Challenge held Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Vermillion, South Dakota.  The meet attracted numerous Division I teams, along with NSIC schools Sioux Falls, Southwest Minnesota State and Minot State and a variety of NAIA and NCAA Division III schools.
            Moeller posted the new school record on his first jump of the day, winning the long jump at 25' 2".  The previous school record of 24' 7 ½" was held by Derek Lahm and set in the 2018 season (3/30/18).  He also finished third in the triple jump with a leap of 47' ¼". 
            Cole Christoffersen hit an NCAA provisional mark in the hammer throw, surpassing the 200 foot mark with a toss of 200' 7 1/2".  Nathan Pearson was fifth in the 800-meter run in a time of 1:55.31.
            Sophomore Cody Rogers posted a pair of seventh place finishes in the long jump (22' 4 ½") and triple jump (44' 1 ½").
            Noah Lilly was eighth in the 110-meter hurdle finals in 15.47 seconds, Dylan Kneifl came in eighth in the long jump (22' 3 ¾"), Braden Johnson was ninth in the long jump (22' 1 ¾") and Brandon Mundorf placed 10th in the 1500-meter run at 4:05.25.
            Wayne State will send most of its men's team to Lincoln Thursday to the Prairie Wolf Invite at Nebraska Wesleyan while several others qualified and will compete at the Drake Relays in Des Moines Friday and Saturday.
